Owen Peemoeller's lifelong passion for tennis and his enduring commitment to the Melba Tennis Club (MTC) are truly remarkable. He began his journey with MTC at the age of 12, finding solace and joy in the nearby courts that became his sanctuary. Over the years, these courts not only witnessed his tennis skills evolve but also nurtured his deep love for the sport.

Despite the harsh Canberra winters, Owen's dedication to tennis remained unwavering. He cherished the sunny days spent outdoors, honing his skills, and relishing the camaraderie MTC offered. Tennis was more than just a pastime for Owen; it was a source of personal growth and fulfillment, leading him to become the head coach in 2002.

He takes immense pleasure in seeing both kids and adults revel in the joys of tennis while reaping its health benefits. Owen Peemoeller's journey epitomises the enduring power of passion and community that defines MTC, and he remains a steadfast supporter of the club's excellence. It is with profound gratitude that Owen accepts the esteemed honour of being granted a life membership within this exceptional club.

Narelle Sykes

Narelle Sykes epitomises dedication and passion within the Melba Tennis Club (MTC) community. Her tennis journey began later in life, showcasing that love for the game knows no age limits. With two decades of unwavering MTC membership.

Narelle's five-decade sports involvement extends beyond MTC, but tennis holds her heart. She thrives on outdoor courts, fuelling her passion with sunlit games. Beyond personal enjoyment, Narelle organises many social tennis sessions weekly, fostering camaraderie.

Cardio tennis is among her favourite activities, reflecting her love for the outdoors and meeting like-minded enthusiasts. She embraces opportunities to watch juniors grow and is a keen observer of MTC's positive changes. Narelle feels an immense sense of honour and gratitude for being granted life membership in this exceptional club.

Narelle received the Tennis ACT Volunteer of the Year Award in both 2011 and 2023, acknowledging her contributions to tennis in the ACT.
